We’ve been trying to get Darren Huckerby to a forum for some time and it was well worth the wait. Hucks kept a capacity audience entertained for two hours as he signed books and autographs and fielded every question thrown at him, even the blasphemous suggestion that his wife can run faster than him!
What’s more we were delighted to add 15 new members as a result of the evening, which suggests that we are moving in the right direction.
As part of the announcement of our new charity initiative (see Commitment to Charity tab in this section) we were delighted to welcome five members of the adult section of the Hamlet Centre, which works with people with special needs, along with their carers.
One of the highlights of the evening was seeing the faces of these young people as Hucks signed autographs, had pictures taken with them and presented each with a special signed copy of his book.
As you would expect, Hucks was very open about all aspects of his career, both good and bad and it was good to see that the large pile of copies of his book at the back of the room had pretty much disappeared by the end of the evening.
In our experience very few footballers deserve the term “legend” both on and off the field, but last night we were all very fortunate to spend time in the company of one who definately does.
An Evening with Darren Huckerby
