In the light of the incident involving Tom Adeyemi on Friday night, the Committee of The Independent Norwich City Supporters Club wish to make it clear that they abhor the continued instances of racist abuse in football and urge their members, and indeed, City supporters generally, to report any instances that they observe themselves to the appropriate authorities.
Whilst racism is clearly first and foremost a social issue, football has unfortunately once again become a medium for its expression and only a policy of zero tolerance will eradicate this stain on the game that we all love. Whether it is the action of an individual, as appears to be the case at Liverpool, or a group, in the case of those City fans who felt it was acceptable to use John Terry’s name to bait an opponent at Loftus Road last week, it cannot and should not be tolerated.
Finally, we wish to offer our best wishes and unreserved support to Tom Adeyemi and his family. Tom is an outstanding young man and a wonderful representative of Norwich City Football Club, making his obvious distress on Friday evening even more saddening.
